Downhill mountain biking game
Descenders is a fast-paced sports game that lets you race down a mountain on your bike. In this game, you engage in extreme downhill biking with high-end 3D graphics. Not only that, but each level is procedurally generated, giving you a different experience in each race.
You can choose the easiest route to the boss to jump or take the extra course to earn more rep points. Control-wise, it is almost like a skateboarding game. However, it applies a roguelike system that sends you to the start if you crash.
What is Descenders?
The Descenders game offers a refreshing take on downhill mountain biking. Here, you race through grass fields, woods, and obstacle jumps in the first- or third-person perspective to complete an entire run. Then, you face a boss level—a steep and challenging course that ends in a gargantuan mega-jump. Each level varies in design due to its procedurally generated nature. With this, no two runs are the same.
How you play the game is up to you. You can pedal down the course to get to the boss level fast or take a detour to gain more rep—the game’s XP. The more rep you gain, the more health you earn. It also lets you sign with a sponsor to enter exclusive races and compete on the global leaderboard. Of course, this also allows you to unlock cosmetic items.
The game employs a roguelike system requiring you to start from the beginning if you crash. However, there are multiple checkpoints that, if passed through, act as respawn locations after bailouts. However, mastering the game is nearly impossible due to its ever-changing course. Crashing also takes one health point and a couple of hundred rep points. Worse, quitting before the boss level also incurs a rep penalty.
What’s new in the Mischief Tour update?
The game’s Mischief Tour update brings eight new missions that reward you with sweet, new gear when accomplished. One of these is a fun scavenger hunt that sends you biking through the twists and turns of the park. Moreover, there is also a new map called Snowman’s Ball, which plunges you into a snowy world full of obstacles and challenging paths. There is also the Lost Cause Caves, a wonderfully lit cave system full of interesting sights and colors.
The Big Air Compound Update
In this update, the developers drew real-life inspiration from Matt Macduff, whose performance art at the Big Air Compound directly inspired the Big Air Compound update. You can now enjoy not only new bike types but also a variety of fresh content, including new maps to explore, challenging missions to complete, and additional item customization options to personalize your experience.
New trails include UTAH TRAILS, offering riders intense downhill sections and steep, adrenaline-pumping terrain; GRASSHOPPER DH, a trail full of twists and turns that makes it a thrilling ride; and BIKEOUT 5, a track with even more challenges and tricks. Check out all of these, along with the new missions, the new bike type, and the brand-new customization options, in the Grand Tour.
Is the game good?
Overall, Descenders is a punishing, fast-paced, and stunt-focused game. However, despite that, its core gameplay is pure and simple. Each level is so well-crafted, with its procedurally generated map presented with great scenery. Unfortunately, the procedural generation robs the players of the chance to dive into and master the game. Each run will be as challenging as your first time on the course.
